MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team banged out 24 hits and wrapped up its first Landmark Conference series of the year with a split versus Moravian University on Saturday at Doc Young Field.

The Greyhounds captured the opener 8-7 before the Rangers rallied to capture the nightcap 11-7.

In the opener, Moravian (7-10, 2-1 LC) broke a 7-7 tie with a run in the top of the seventh. Drew (10-4, 1-2 LC) rebounded in game two, rallying from a five-run deficit by outscoring the Greyhounds 10-1 to end the game.

Will Fritch and
Ryan Jones collected four hits apiece on the day for the Rangers.

Moravian jumped to an early lead in the opener with a three-run second. Drew bounced back with five in the third, including consecutive RBI-singles from junior
Anthony Hernandez, Fuentes, and senior
William Coleman to go up 5-3.

The Greyhounds pushed back in front with four runs from the fourth through the sixth innings, making it 7-5, before Drew scored twice in the sixth, with Jones tying the game on an RBI-single.

In the top of the seventh, Moravian put a pair of runners on with an infield single and a walk before Cole Cherkas drove in the eventual game-winning run with a single.

The Rangers threatened in both the eighth and the ninth, putting runners into scoring position in both innings, but Moravian's bullpen held the lead.

Jones, Fritch, Hernandez, and Fuentes stroked two hits apiece in the opener for Drew. Sophomore
Raiden Yost started on the mound for the Rangers and worked 5 2/3 innings before giving way to freshman
Brandon Kobryn, who allowed just one run on two hits over the final 3 1/3.

In the second game, Moravian jumped ahead 2-0 on a two-run homer from Paul Croyle in the second. Drew came back with a run in the third before the visitors took a 6-1 lead with a four-run, three-hit fifth. However, the Rangers embarked on their comeback in the bottom half, when they scored three runs on three hits and an error. Jones knocked in a run with a single while Hernandez doubled one in.

Drew took the lead for good with a five-run, five-hit seventh. The Rangers started the inning with four straight hits, including a double from Fritch, an infield RBI-single from senior
K.J. Hallgren, and a two-run single from junior
Nate Miller. Sophomore
Dallas Lorenzetti capped the big inning with a run-scoring single.

The Greyhounds stopped the bleeding with a run in the eighth, but Drew answered with two in the bottom half, which included another double from Fritch and an RBI-single from Hallgren, which set the final score.

Jones and Hallgren each finished with two hits, two runs, and two RBIs in the nightcap while Fritch, Fuentes, and Lorenzetti drilled two hits each.

Freshman
Kyle Johnson started on the mound for Drew and tossed five innings before senior
Nick Pellegrino was impressive over the final four frames, yielding just one unearned run on four hits and one walk while striking out five to pick up the victory.

The Rangers pick up their schedule on Thursday, when they visit New Jersey City University at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference matchup.
