ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team used a late 7-0 run to slash an eight-goal deficit down to one, but host Lebanon Valley College held on down the stretch to hand the Rangers a 17-15 setback in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening.
Senior
Hailey Simmons erupted for seven goals – tied for fifth-most in team history and the most by a Ranger in five years – and one assist for Drew, which scored 10 of its goals in the second half.
Simmons scored four of her goals during Drew's comeback, including the final tally of the spurt that made it 15-14 with 8:16 remaining in the game. But the Flying Dutchmen scored a pair of big goals to assume a 17-14 lead with 4:45 showing. Simmons set the final score when she struck for goal No. 7 with 1:13 left.

Lizzy Barrett added three goals for the Rangers while senior
Anna Horne made 13 saves and classmate
Jenna Draney posted five draw controls.
Veronica Venezia finished with eight goals and three assists for LVC (3-5) while Julia Abendschoen turned aside 15 shots.
The Flying Dutchmen outscored the Rangers 7-2 in the opening quarter, when Barrett and Simmons each scored for Drew. Lebanon Valley extended its lead to 12-5 at the half, with Drew receiving second-quarters from Simmons, Barrett, and Draney.
The hosts outscored the Rangers 3-2 to start the third quarter to assume their eight-goal lead, but that's when Drew caught fire, scoring three times in the final 2:08 of the period. Simmons and junior
Ella Champigny each struck before Simmons scored with six seconds on the clock to make it a 15-10 game heading into the final quarter.
Simmons found the back of the net again with 11:02 remaining, kicking off a 4-0 Drew run to start the quarter. Barrett, junior
Emma DiPatri, and Simmons all scored in succession as the Rangers suddenly trailed just 15-14 before Lebanon Valley scored its late goals.
Drew returns to action on Saturday, when it visits Susquehanna University in its Landmark Conference opener starting at 1 p.m.
