Precht Breaks or Ties Two Records as Softball Splits Landmark Opener

MADISON, N.J. – Senior Madi Precht broke or tied a pair of school records as the Drew University softball team opened Landmark Conference play by splitting a doubleheader with the University of Scranton on Sunday at the Drew Softball Complex.

The Rangers (12-4, 1-1 LC) won the opener 13-2 in five innings before the Royals (6-8, 1-1 LC) captured the nightcap 6-2.

Precht opened the game by going 3-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base. With her second run scored - the 102nd of her career - she surpassed the former Drew record held by Kim Andrim C'99 since 1999. Precht also tied the career school stolen base record of 58, pullling even with Jennifer Mateo C'13.

In the first game, senior Bailey Comeau tossed a six-hit complete game and struck out seven. Along with Precht, sophomore Fran O'Kleasky had a big game, finishing 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, while classmate Mackenzie Pisani also smacked two hits.

The Rangers scored three runs over the first two innings, when they drew six walks, before breaking it open with a 10-run third. Sophomore Delaney O'Donoghue smacked a two-run single early in the inning before freshman Haley Meierhofer singled home a run, making it 7-0. Sophomore Deja Robinson and freshman Josie Di Troia cracked back-to-back sacrifice flies before Pisani stroked an RBI-single to make it 11-0. O'Kleasky capped the inning when she clouted a towering two-run homer to straightaway centerfield.

Scranton scored twice in the fourth but Comeau (5-0) blanked the Royals in the fifth to earn her fifth win of the season.

In the second game, Ranger starting pitcher Teagan Bradley and Emma Tirollo each tossed a pair of shutout innings to start the game before Scranton scored three runs (one earned) in the third.

The Royals scored again in the fourth to go up 4-0 before Drew cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from Meierhofer. But Scranton padded its lead with single runs in the sixth and the seventh while Tirollo stranded three baserunners over the final two innings.

Bradley (3-3) worked her fifth complete game of the season, striking out four and walking none.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday, when they visit William Paterson University at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
