Men’s Golf Holds One-Stroke Lead Following Opening Round of Spring Opener

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Freshman Daniel Holden jumped to a four-stroke lead and the Drew University men's golf team leads Catholic University by one stroke following the opening round of the Sandhills Splash on Tuesday at Longleaf Golf Club in the team's spring break trip.
 
Five strokes separate the top four teams. Drew, competing in its first round of the spring, shot a 321 and is followed by Catholic, Drew's "B" team (324), Goucher (326) and Cabrini (345).

Holden fired a 1-over-par 73 – three strokes better than his top round of the fall, when he shot just two rounds. He is followed by Drew's Shiv Bhaskar and Goucher's Khai Buttner, who are tied for second in the field of 31 with a 77.
 
Also competing for Drew's "A" team were junior Myles Cherry, who is tied for sixth with an 80, and sophomore Mike Ford, who is tied for eighth with an 81. Freshman Elliot Parker and senior Lucas Artigliere are also in action and are tied for 14th with an 83.
 
Joining Holden on Drew's "B" team are freshman Ryan Ricci (T6th, 80), junior Matvey Pangan (T-10th, 82), freshman Max Conklin (26th, 89), and freshman Austin Chilles (29th, 96). Junior Ryan Firman is also competing as an individual and is tied for 10th with an 82.
 
The second and final round of the invitational will begin at 9 a.m. back at Longleaf Golf Club.
