Softball Wins Two More in Florida

NAPLES, Fla. – The Drew University softball team continued its hot streak on its spring break trip to Florida, going 2-0 on Tuesday to run its winning streak to four.

The Rangers (5-1) kicked off the day with a 3-2 win over John Carroll University before topping Alverno College 16-6 in six innings.

Against John Carroll, sophomore Deja Robinson continued her torrid start as a Ranger, knocking in the first run of the contest with a single down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth. Classmate Mackenzie Pisani would later score Robinson on a single to left-center, extending the lead to 2-0.

However, John Carroll wasted no time responding, scoring two of their own on a pair of singles in the top of the fifth, tying the game at 2-2.

Drew did not back down though. In the bottom of the sixth, Pisani (2-for-2 with two RBI on the day) once again came through with a single to rightfield to score freshman Zoey Shimp and give the Rangers the 3-2 lead.

Sophomore Teagan Bradley tossed four innings for Drew, scattering four hits with three strikeouts and no runs. Senior Bailey Comeau would pitch the final three stanzas, recording two strikeouts to push her record to 2-0 on the season.

In the second game of the day the Rangers' bats exploded with 20 hits as they scored a run in every inning.

The Rangers got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Junior Madi Baldwin doubled to left to score Robinson before sophomore Delaney O'Donoghue singled to center, bringing home Baldwin. Baldwin would finish the game 4-for-5 with four RBI and missed the cycle by a home run.

Drew would add two more runs in the top of the second, which included an RBI-single from Baldwin. But Alverno pulled close in the bottom half, scoring four runs to cut the lead down to one 6-5. But the Rangers made sure to keep the runs coming.

In the top of the third Drew scored three runs, this time on an RBI-single from freshman Aurora Marino and a two-run single by Robinson that made it 9-5.

In the fifth both Robinson (5-for-5, four RBI) and Baldwin doubled to drive home three combined runs, and Drew would add another three in the sixth, which included an RBI-triple from Robinson, a run-scoring double from freshman Haley Meierhofer, and an RBI-single from O'Donoghue.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Amanda Novak pitched a complete game, tossing all six innings and striking out two to pick up the win.

Robinson's incredible start has her batting .737 (14-for-19) to go with 13 RBI through six games. Three other Rangers are also hitting over .500: Meierhofer (.625), Baldwin (.525), and senior Molly O'Brien (.500).

The Rangers have an off day on Wednesday before hitting the fields again on Thursday against Swarthmore at 9 a.m. and Clark at 11 a.m.
