Wilkie Scores 100th Career Goal as Rangers Top Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Craig Wilkie scored his 100th career goal and the Drew University men's lacrosse team cruised to a 22-11 non-conference victory Manhattanville College on Wednesday.

The Rangers (4-3) received three or more goals from four different players and broke the game open by outscoring the Valiants 8-0 in the second quarter that made it a 12-2 game at the half.

Wilkie reached his milestone with his third and final goal of the night. He is the first Rangers to achieve the feat since John Buckham C'10 in 2009. Wilkie finished the game with three goals and four assists.

Drew's 22 goals are tied for the fifth-most in team history, and their 13 assists are tied for fourth all-time at Drew and the most since the Rangers also had 13 helpers in a victory at Southwestern (Texas) in 2012.

Freshman Ian Curley led the Rangers with seven goals while sophomore Mike DeMayo racked up eight points on four goals and four assists to go with seven ground balls. Sophomore Luke Bruther netted three goals and one assist while junior Brett Spafford also tossed in a pair of goals.

Junior GJ Nazziola finished 17-for-28 on faceoffs and picked up 10 ground balls while freshman Theo Krueger went 7-for-11 at the X. In goal, freshman Matt Duarte started and made six saves during the first half. Classmate Sawyer Kennedy came on to play 22 minutes sand stopped three shots before senior Yoel Ovadya played the final eight minutes in net.

The Rangers racked up a 63-40 shot advantage and a 66-47 surplus in ground balls.

Drew jumped to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, when four different Rangers found the back of the net, before erupting with its big second period. DeMayo posted three goals and an assist in the second quarter alone while Bruther scored twice in the stanza.

DeMayo assisted on two of Drew's first three goals in the second half as the Rangers stretched their lead to 15-3. Manhattanville scored the last four goals over the third quarter to make it 15-7, but the Rangers settled any doubt with a 6-0 surge to start the final period. Curley netted three of his goals during the run, which included Wilkie's century-mark tally with 9:50 left.

The Rangers return to action on Sunday, when they host Lycoming College at 1 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
