SCRANTON, Pa. – The Drew University men's tennis team clinched the top seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championships with a 7-2 victory at the University of Scranton on Wednesday afternoon.
The Rangers (11-3, 6-0 LC) pushed their winning streak to eight and have now won 22 straight Landmark Conference regular-season matches, dating back to the end of the 2019 season.
It is the third year in a row that Drew will enter the Landmark Conference Championships as the No. 1 seed. The Rangers captured the Landmark title in 2021 and finished as the runner-up last season.
The Blue and Green opened the match by winning two of three doubles points before winning five of the six singles matches.
In doubles, the Rangers posted victories at the second and third spots. Juniors
Santo Carroccia and
Daryl Wong Li-Hom combined for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 while seniors
Leo Ambrogio and
Bret Schuler captured an 8-2 victory at the third flight.
Drew went on to win the top three spots in singles play, including a 6-4, 6-3 victory from senior
Avi Perera over James Harrington, last year's Landmark Conference Player of the Year. Wong Li-Hom added a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 while Ambrogio scored a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 3.
Ambrogio, Schuler, and Wong Li-Hom all pushed their Landmark Conference doubles records to 6-0 on the season.
The Rangers also prevailed at Nos. 5-6 singles, with Carroccia coming out on top 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and senior
John Dickey capturing a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
Carroccia (6-0), Perera (5-0), and Dickey (3-0) all remained undefeated in conference singles play this season.
Drew opens up a three-match weekend on Friday, when it hosts Ursinus College in a non-conference match starting at 3 p.m.
