Barrett Scores 100th Goal, but Rangers Fall to Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC – Junior Lizzy Barrett scored her 100th career goal, but the Drew University women's lacrosse team lost by a final of 21-8 at Catholic University on Saturday in a Landmark Conference tilt.

Barrett reached the milestone with her third goal of the game, which occurred with 7:40 left in the third quarter. She finished with four goals, marking the sixth time this season she has scored at least four goals in a game. Barrett becomes the second Ranger this season to reach the milestone, as senior Hailey Simmons achieved the feat as well.

Junior Ella Champigny added a pair of goals for the Rangers (7-7, 2-3 LC) while junior Mary Kate Davidson picked up four ground balls. Senior Anna Horne made eight saves while playing the first half before sophomore Arianna Mendez stopped five shots in the second half.

Kate Olsen posted five goals and one assist for the Cardinals (7-7, 5-0 LC).

Catholic scored the game's opening goal before senior Jenna Draney put Drew on the scoreboard with 10:18 left in the first quarter, finishing off a pass from Simmons. But that's when the Cardinals used a 9-0 run to open up a gap.

Barrett scored twice over the final 11 minutes of the half, but the Cardinals continued to pull away and led 14-3 at the intermission.

Barrett accounted for each of the Rangers' next two goals, with her final tally coming with 13:24 left in the game. She scored her last goal with 13:24 left in the game, kicking off a 4-0 run for Drew. Champigny scored both of her goals in the spurt while Simmons also found the back of the net.

The Rangers are back in action next Saturday, when they host Elizabethtown College at 11 a.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
