Women’s Tennis Rolls Past Scranton, Into Landmark Final

TOWSON, Md. – The Drew University women's tennis team blanked fourth-seeded University of Scranton 5-0 in the semifinals of the Landmark Conference Championships on Wednesday at the Drew Tennis Complex.

The Rangers (17-2), who won their eighth match in a row, will now advance to the final for the second straight season. They will look to defend the conference title on Saturday at 11 a.m., when they take on second-seeded Moravian University in a rematch of last year's final. Moravian defeated third-seeded Goucher 5-0 in the other semifinal on Wednesday.

Drew, ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA Division III Region III poll, has now won three more matches than any team in program history.

The Rangers opened the match sweeping the three doubles points. Senior Sanne Bloemendaal and Melina Christodoulou earned an 8-1 victory at the No. 2 spot, running their record to 12-1 on the season, before sophomore Courtney Bresler and senior Danielle DelRosso won by the same score at No. 3. Sophomore Mary Kalorin and freshman Sofiya Lebedeva completed the sweep with an 8-4 win at first doubles in a matchup between the fifth (Drew) and sixth-(Scranton) ranked doubles teams in the region.

Kalorin followed up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles, improving to 15-4 on the year while pushing Drew's lead to 4-0. Bloemendaal then clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win while moving to 12-2. Per Landmark Conference postseason rules, the match was played to decision.

The Rangers will be seeking their third Landmark Conference title in as many trips to the final, having captured the conference crown in both 2010 and 2022.
