GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Drew University women's tennis team won its seventh consecutive match with a 7-2 non-conference victory at Stockton University on Wednesday.
The Rangers (9-1) started by winning two of three doubles points. Sophomore
Mary Kalorin and freshman
Sofiya Lebedeva won 8-2 at No. 1, improving to 8-2 on the season, while senior
Sanne Bloemendaal and junior
Melina Christodoulou earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 to stay unbeaten at 7-0.
Singles action was extremely competitive, with three of the six matches decided by a tiebreaker. However, Drew was in command at the top of the lineup, getting a 6-1, 6-0 victory from Lebedeva at No. 1 and a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 by Christodoulou. Lebedeva is now 9-1 on the season while Christodoulou is 8-1.
Kalorin captured a 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-3 victory at No. 3 while freshman
Natalia Zamora also prevailed in a tiebreaker, rallying for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-4 win at No. 5. Bloemendaal was edged 6-2, 2-6, 4-10 at No. 4, but senior
Danielle DelRosso won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Rangers visit The College of New Jersey on Friday in a non-conference match starting at noon.
