NORMAN, Okla. – Elliot Parker has added another postseason award to his collection after being named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III All-Freshman Team.
Parker was one of just seven golfers nationally to earn a spot on the team, which is composed of one freshman from each region in Division III. He is the first men's golfer in team history to capture the honor.
Last week, Parker became the second GCAA/PING NCAA Division III All-Region selection in team history. In addition, at the Landmark Conference Championships he earned First-Team All-Conference and Rookie of the Year honors as the top first-year at the event, where he placed third with a 150 (73-77).
For the season, Parker shot 17 rounds and led the Rangers with an average of 73.5 – a school record by over two strokes. He also broke Drew standards for the best 18-hole score (68) and 36-hole score (140) and finished the season ranked 16th among all golfers in Division III by GolfStat.
Parker broke the top-10 in all nine of his events and earned medalist honors twice. He set the 36-hole school record at the Royal Lakes Invitational on Oct. 10-11, when he shot back-to-back rounds of 70 and finished four strokes under par. He first broke the 18-hole school record at The Ruckus on March 19, where he earned his first collegiate victory with 143 (75-68), shooting 4-under-par in the final round. He fired another 4-under 68 to win Drew's Garden States Collegiate Classic on April 16.
Parked helped lead the Rangers to a top-three showing in five of his nine events. He paced Drew to the team title at the Garden States Classic, where the team shattered the program record for 18 holes (285). The Rangers also finished one stroke behind McDaniel for the team title with a 584 (291-293) at The Gauntlet and placed just two strokes behind Scranton in taking second in rainy conditions at the Landmark Conference Championships with a 615 (314-301). For the season, Drew averaged a 303.2 – some 16 strokes better than the previous school record.
