SALISBURY, Md. – The Drew University took on a tough Stevenson University squad in its season opener on Friday, and the Mustangs earned a 3-0 victory on the first day of the Salisbury University Margie Knight Classic.
Stevenson, which finished last season ranked fourth regionally and competed in the NCAA Division III tournament, won by scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 25-18.
Sophomore
Marissa Guajardo led the Rangers with eight kills on 18 attempts for a .333 hitting performance. Junior
Genevieve Sarinelli served up five aces – tied for third-most in team history – while while sophomore
Teeya Desgoutte added six kills, 13 digs, and two blocks. Classmate
Emily Shirk totaled six kills and 13 digs, and junior
Kiara Vasquez scooped 14 digs. Freshman
Alyssa Rachwal distributed 24 assists.
The Rangers conclude tournament play on Saturday, when they take on William Peace at 10 a.m. and Salisbury at noon.
