Rider’s Game-Winner Vaults Rangers to OT Victory at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Freshman Emma Rider scored the game-winning goal midway through overtime and the Drew University field hockey team earned a 2-1 Landmark Conference (LC) victory inside a wet Knox Stadium at Juniata College on Saturday.

The Rangers (3-5, 1-1 LC) were awarded a penalty corner with 5:15 left in OT, and sophomore Emily Monaco injected a pass to the Rider at the top of the circle. Rider ripped a low shot that deflected off the goalie's pads and into the cage for her team-leading fifth goal of the season and her first collegiate game-winner.

Rider finished with one goal and one assist while junior defender Lauren Cagliostro also scored a goal. Senior Olyvia Jackson made five saves for Drew.

The Eagles (3-5, 0-2 LC) held a slim 3-1 shot advantage in the opening quarter, but that's when Jackson made two of her stops. The Rangers attempted the only shot by either team in a defensive minded second quarter, but they made it stand up. With 9:34 on the clock, Drew received its second straight penalty corner, and senior Maxine Lloyd delivered a pass to Rider at the top of the arc. She took a quick dribble forward and flicked a pass to Cagliostro on the left elbow. Cagliostro rifled in a shot just inside the left post for her third career goal and her first since her freshman season to make it a 1-0 game at the half.

Jackson made another save in a scoreless third quarter, and she was less than four minutes away from a clean sheet when Caitlin Steffie broke up the shutout for the Eagles, scoring on a corner.

Jackson's final stop was a big one, as she kicked aside a potential game-winning shot less than two minutes into the extra session before the Rangers marched to the other end of the field for the eventual go-ahead tally.

The Blue and Green are back in action on Wednesday, when they visit King's College at 7 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
