WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Senior
Alexa Thomas scored the game-winning goal with 6:55 remaining and the Drew University field hockey team picked up a 2-1 non-conference victory over King's College Wednesday evening.
Â
The Rangers (4-5), who earned their second straight victory, shut out the Monarchs over the last three quarters after the hosts scored a goal in the opening period.
Â
Junior
Tyler Olivio also scored for Drew while senior
Olyvia Jackson made a pair of saves playing in her hometown.
Â
King's took the only four shots in the opening quarter and scored with just 56 seconds on the clock. But Olivio tied things up when she scored her second goal of the year with 1:06 left in the first half, making it a 1-1 game at the intermission.
Â
Neither side scored in a defensive third quarter that saw the two teams combined for just three shots. But the Rangers took control in the final stanza, when they outshot King's 6-0. Thomas converted on the team's fifth shot of the quarter, drilling in a feed from freshman
Emma Rider for her third goal of the season and her second game-winner.
Â
The Rangers return to Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when they visit Elizabethtown College at 1 p.m.
