Field Hockey Blanks Manhattanville for First Win

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Freshman Emma Rider posted one goal and one assist while senior Olyvia Jackson made four saves as the Drew University field hockey team earned its first victory of the season with a 3-0 non-conference win at Manhattanville College on Tuesday.

The Rangers (1-2) did all of their offensive damage in the second quarter, when they outshot the Valiants 6-0.

Senior Alexa Thomas provided the squad with all of the offense it would need when she scored less than two minutes into the stanza. Rider assisted on the goal, then recorded her first career goal with an unassisted tally just over a minute later.

Sophomore Emily Monaco set the final score when she cashed in with 5:12 left in the opening half.

After making one save in the first quarter, Jackson turned aside another shot in the third quarter and two more in the final stanza en route to her second career shutout.

Florence Harrison made five saves while playing the first 40 minutes of the game for Manhattanville (1-3).

The Rangers continue their schedule on Thursday, when they visit Neumann University at 4 p.m. in another non-conference tilt.
