ASTON, Pa. – Freshman
Emma Rider scored the team's first two goals before junior
Tyler Olivio netted the game-winner late in the third quarter and the Drew University field hockey squad captured its second straight victory with a 3-2 win at Neumann University in a non-conference tilt Thursday evening.
Â
The Rangers (2-2) outshot the Knights 16-5, but a pair of goalies combined for seven saves for Neumann (1-2).
Â
Drew never trailed after Rider scored off a deflection on a penalty corner midway through the opening quarter.
Â
The Rangers carried their 1-0 lead into the second period, but the Knights tied it up a minute into the quarter and it was a 1-1 game at the half.
Â
Drew turned up the heat offensively in the third quarter, when it outshot the hosts 10-1. Rider broke through again with 4:35 left in the stanza, scoring off another corner for her third goal in the last two games. Senior
Maxine Lloyd provided the assist.
Â
Neumann answered less than two minutes later, scoring on a corner of their own to make it a 2-2 game. But with 1:30 on the clock, Olivio knocked in her own rebound for the fourth goal of her career and her second game-winner.
Â
Senior
Olyvia Jackson played the entire game in goal for the Rangers.
Â
Drew returns to action on Wednesday, when it visits Widener University at 7 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
