ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College pulled away over the final three quarters to hand the Rangers an 81-41 setback in Landmark Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening.
Drew trailed just 19-14 at the end of the first quarter before the Blue Jays answered with a big second period, when it outscored the Rangers 23-9.
Senior forward
Jamie Struble led Drew with 11 points and seven rebounds while Jessica King scored 15 points to pace the Blue Jays (12-4, 8-1), who are in second place in the Landmark Conference standings.
Elizabethtown never trailed, but it was a tie game (7-7) after a layup from Struble with 4:40 left in the first quarter. The Blue Jays led 19-11 with 1:10 on the clock but the Rangers cut into the deficit with a free throw from freshman guard
Olivia Aliotta and a lay-up from sophomore guard
Maddie Beyer to make it a five-point game heading into the second quarter.
The hosts answered with a 6-0 spurt to start the second quarter, opening up a 25-14 lead. Sophomore guard
Maddy Morgan hit a pair of free throws to draw the Rangers to within nine with 7:25 left in the half, but that's as close as Drew would get and Elizabethtown heated up late in the quarter to assume a 42-21 halftime advantage. The Blue Jays continued to break away in the second half en route to the victory.
The Rangers (5-11, 3-6) continue their season on Saturday, when they host Goucher College at 4 p.m. in another Landmark Conference outing.
