Kline Scores 1,000th Point as Rangers Cruise by Scranton

MADISON, N.J. – Junior guard Josh Kline scored his 1,000th collegiate point and the Drew University men's basketball team rolled to a 103-76 Landmark Conference victory over the University of Scranton on Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (15-3, 8-3 LC), who scored 100 points for the second game in a row and the fifth time this season, have now posted their best record through 18 games in team history.

For the second game in a row, Drew posted a tremendous showing at the foul line, finishing 23-for-28 after going 22-for-26 in an overtime win over Goucher this past Saturday. The Rangers also handed out 19 assists and committed a season-low six turnovers while shooting 53.2% from the field – the team's second-best mark of the season.

Junior guard Pat Higgins led Drew with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting while Kline and senior guard Andrew Turco (7-7 FTs) finished with 13 points apiece. Sophomore forward Kevin Cronin contributed 12 points while junior guard Papie Roberts tallied 10 points.

Kline scored 806 points during his first two seasons at Ocean County College and has scored 206 points thus far at Drew.

Teddy Spratt led the Royals (4-14, 2-9) with 22 points.

For the second game in a row, the Rangers never trailed. Drew scored the first four points of the game and led just 18-14 with 11:56 left in the opening half. But that's when the Rangers went on a 12-2 surge to open up a double-digit lead, then erupted for a 23-5 run to end the half and led 57-27 at the intermission.

Drew continued to pour it on in the second half, outscoring Scranton 17-4 over the opening 4:43 of the period as the lead ballooned to 43. A 4-point play from freshman guard Eli Yusavage pushed the Rangers' advantage to 44 with 11:33 remaining, and the hosts would lead by at least 30 until the final minute.

Sixteen different players appeared in the game for Drew while 11 Rangers found the scoring column.

The Rangers are back in action on Saturday, when they visit Lycoming College in another Landmark Conference tilt.
