ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Drew University men's volleyball team opened played at the Elmira Invitational on Friday evening and lost by a final of 3-0 to Elmira.
The Soaring Eagles won by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-23.
Senior
Omarf Ortega-Reyes threw down seven kills and just one error on 14 attempts for a .429 hitting performance for a The Rangers (2-2). He also posted eight assists and five digs.
Junior
Jacob Sledz contributed six kills for Drew while classmate
Huriel Perez handed out 10 assists. Junior
Bryan Do also recorded five digs.
Elmira trailed just once in the opening set, but the second set was close in the early going and tied was tied at 12-12 before the hosts pulled away late.
The Eagles were up 19-12 in the third set but the Rangers refused to go quietly, storming back with an 11-6 run to draw within one point before Elmira won match point on a service error.
Drew continues tournament play on Saturday, when it takes on Hobart at 11 a.m. and Nazareth at 3 p.m.
