BRONX, N.Y. – The Drew University men's volleyball team won three close sets, earning a 3-0 victory at Lehman College Wednesday evening.

The Rangers (3-4) won by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.

Junior Jacob Sledz posted seven kills, six aces, and six digs for Drew while sophomore Jason Barbosa also tallied seven kills. Junior Huriel Perez dished out 14 assists, and freshman Jesus Cuautle Perez scooped seven digs.

Ray Rodriguez posted 12 kills and nine digs for the Lightning (0-4).

The Rangers put up a big rally to capture the opening set. Trailing 20-17, the Blue and Green closed the set on an 8-3 run. Barbosa and junior C.J. Addeo each threw down a pair of kills during the stretch while junior Ephraim Smith started the run with a kill of his own.

In the second set, the roles were reversed, as Drew found itself holding off a late Lehman push. The Rangers led 21-16 before the Lightning used a 5-1 run to pull within one. However, Drew ended the set on a 3-0 spurt, capped by an ace from Sledz and block from Addeo and Smith.

Drew jumped to a 13-6 lead in the final set before Lehman scored four unanswered to cut the gap to two. However, the Rangers assembled a decisive 6-1 run late in the period to break it open. Freshman Trevor Wilson and Sledz served up one ace apiece during the run.

Trailing by eight and facing match point, Lehman scored five straight points before sophomore Destan Llola clinched the match with a kill.

The Rangers continue their season on Friday and Saturday at Cougar Kickoff Classic, hosted by Misericordia University. Drew opens tournament play on Friday, when it takes on Rutgers-Newark at 6 p.m. and New Jersey City University at 8 p.m.
