In a barnburner of an opening set, the Rangers were serving for set point before the Blue Jays rallied with three straight points to go up 25-24. However, that's when Shirk fired back-to-back kills before Stanford clinched the set for Drew with a solo block.
The Rangers came out on fire in the second set, surging to a 12-1 lead. Drew maintained control the rest of the way and ended the set on a 7-1 spurt. The Rangers hit a red-hot .462 in the period, throwing down 13 kills while making just one error on 26 swings.
Etown seemed to have the third set in hand when it led 21-14 before Drew stormed back with a 6-0 run. However, the Blue Jays ended the game on a 4-1 surge.
The hosts never trailed in set No. 4, and a 5-0 run put the Jays up 18-9. The Rangers were unable to get closer than six the rest of the way.
Drew bolted to a 9-3 lead in the final set, with Desgoutte throwing down four kills along the way. The Rangers led 10-4 after Millis' third kill of the set, but that's when the Blue Jays embarked on their rally, using a 9-1 run to assume a 13-11 lead. Drew scored two of the next three points, and a kill from Shirk pulled the Rangers to within 14-13 before Britten clinched the match with a kill.
The Rangers travel to Susquehanna University for a tri-match on Saturday. Drew takes on Susquehanna in a Landmark Conference tilt at noon before facing York (Pa.) College in a non-conference affair at 2 p.m.
