Field Hockey Takes Down Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Drew University field hockey team jumped to a 2-0 halftime lead and never looked back as the Rangers earned a big 4-3 Landmark Conference victory at Lycoming College on Saturday.

With the victory, the Rangers (9-8, 3-5 LC) moved into a four-way tie for fifth place in the Landmark Conference standings with just one conference game remaining. The top-six teams in the standings qualify for the Landmark Conference Championships.

Senior Tyler Olivio led the Rangers with two goals while classmate Lauren Cagliostro added one goal and one assist. Senior Janelle Arch also scored for Drew while sophomore Beth Kelly made six saves.

It was a scoreless game until the final minutes of the opening half. Olivio put the Rangers on the scoreboard when she struck off an assist from freshman Emily Caporrino with 3:23 showing before Cagliostro cashed in on a penalty stroke with 1:55 on the clock for her eighth goal of the year.

Riley Marines cut the deficit in half for Lycoming just over four minutes into the second half, but Drew answered by scoring two of the next three goals. Arch scored off a pass from Cagliostro with 6:20 to go in the third quarter for her eighth tally of the season to make it 3-1 before the Warriors pulled to within one again on a goal with 3:23 left in the period.

Olivio provided a much-needed insurance tally with 5:29 remaining, striking off an assist from freshman Ellie Kopec with her team-leading 11th goal of the season to make it 4-2. Marines set the final score when she scored with 2:09 left.

The Rangers close out the regular season on Tuesday, when they host Wilkes University at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference affair.
