ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University women's volleyball team won its opening set in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships, but Elizabethtown College rallied to win the final three and the third-seeded Blue Jays topped the sixth-seeded Rangers 3-1 on Tuesday evening.
Drew captured the first set 25-16 before Etown came back to prevail 25-19, 25-20, and 25-21.
Four different Rangers turned in a double-double for the night, including junior
Emily Shirk, who posted 14 kills and 14 digs. Classmate
Teeya Desgoutte added 12 kills and 13 digs while freshman
Lindsey Millis contributed 11 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Alyssa Rachwal tallied 41 assists and 14 digs.
Competing in the final match of their careers, senior
Genevieve Sarinelli picked up 22 digs while classmate
Alyssa Baron threw down five blocks (two solo).
Gracie Britten notched 12 kills to lead the Blue Jays, who movwddde on to the tournament semifinals where they will visit second-seeded University of Scranton on Thursday.
The Rangers came out of the gates on fire in the opening set, outscoring the Blue Jays 14-4 on the strength of five aces, including two apiece from Shirk and Desgoutte. Drew led by as much as 11 (17-6) before holding off a late Etown rally that saw the Jays edge to within six.

Elizabethtown led for most of the second set, but held just a 20-17 advantage before ending on a 5-2 surge.
The Rangers led 6-4 in the third set, only to see the Blue Jays rally with six unanswered points. Drew came all the way back to take the lead, however, on a kill from Shirk that made it 13-12. A kill from Desgoutte tied the score at 16-16, but Etown scored the next three points to assume the lead for good.
The Blue Jays opened up an 18-12 lead in the final set, but the Rangers would not go quietly. Drew used a 4-0 run, capped by consecutive kills from Millis, junior
Inaya Stanford, and Desgoutte, to make it 18-16. Shirk and Desgoutte added consecutive kills to pull the Rangers to within 23-21 before Etown answered with the final two points of the night.
In just their fourth season of existence as a varsity program, the Rangers were making their second consecutive appearance in the Landmark Conference Championships.
