MADISON, N.J. – Susquehanna University scored a pair of second-half goals and the River Hawks handed the Rangers a 2-0 loss in a Landmark Conference men's soccer tilt Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in Ranger Stadium.
The game marked the season finale for both teams.
Prior to the start of the game, Drew's seven seniors –
Corey Bethel,
Kieran Bradley,
David Hoyt,
Kevin Kiernan,
Tino Puentes,
Lazlo Stauss, and
Thomas Zurkowski – were recognized in a brief ceremony.
The Rangers (7-9-3, 1-7-1 LC) finished with advantages in shots (18-10) and corner kicks (10-3) but were unable to dent Tony Burns, who made six saves for the River Hawks (8-7-3, 3-6 LC).
Susquehanna held a 6-4 edge in shots during the opening half but was unable to place a shot on frame and the scoreboard read 0-0 at the intermission.
Max Paczewski scored what held up as the game-winning goal just over four minutes into the second half, but the Rangers threatened to pull even on numerous occasions, outshooting the River Hawks 14-4 in the period. However, Burns five of his saves in the second half, including stops on shots from Kiernan in the 59th minute and freshman
Turkcan Curak in the 86th minute.
The River Hawks added an insurance goal on a header from Angelo Zografos in the 89th minute.
Kiernan led all players in both shots (six) and shots on goal (three) for the day.
