MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals midway through the second half and the Rangers rallied past Susquehanna University 2-1 in their Landmark Conference and regular-season finale Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
With the win, the Rangers (8-6-4, 4-3-2 LC) clinched the No. 4 seed and homefield in the first round of the Landmark Conference Championships. Drew will take on No. 5-seeded Catholic University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The River Hawks (5-10-4, 1-6-2) broke open a scoreless game in the 62nd minute when Amelia Kopp rebounded in a shot off the crossbar.
The Rangers were quick to respond. Junior defender
Kayla Kuncken tied it in the 64th minute, when she delivered a free kick just inside the right post for her first collegiate goal.
Senior
Isabella Grof-Tisza, playing in what could have been the final home game of her career, made sure she would have one more outing in Ranger Stadium. She was fouled inside the box in the 67th minute, and she stepped up and delivered her second goal of the season. Both of her tallies this year have been game-winners, as she also scored in the 87th minute of Drew's 1-0 win over Catholic back on Oct. 12.
The Rangers out-shot the River Hawks 19-10 but Susquehanna's Katie Henchy turned aside Drew's first nine shots on goal and finished with 10 saves.
Sophomore
Sarah Crowley collected a pair of saves for the Rangers.
Drew will be making its third consecutive appearance in the Landmark Conference Championships.
