Big First Half Powers Drew Over Goucher

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's basketball team outscored Goucher College 60-29 in the first half en route to a 96-76 Landmark Conference victory Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (4-2, 2-0 LC), who earned their third win in a row, received another balanced scoring effort, as five players reached double figures. Senior forward Peso Crump led the way with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Senior guard Josh Kline posted 18 points, nine rebounds, and five assists while classmate Malcolm Newman added 14 points and four steals. Sophomore forward Matthew Zenker scored 12 points, and graduate student James Anderson contributed 10 points off the bench. In addition, junior forward David Musial notched seven points, 10 rebounds (eight offensive), and five assists.

Jacob Morgan posted 22 points, four assists, and four steals to lead the Gophers (1-4, 0-2 LC).

The Rangers led for all but 1:54 in the game and shot a blistering 64.9% in the opening half, when they also knocked down half (9-18) of their 3-point attempts.  Drew led by just six (24-18) with 10:58 on the clock before cutting loose for a 36-11 outburst over the remainder of the half, nailing five 3-pointers and throwing down a pair of dunks along the way.

Drew nudged its lead to as much as 34 early in the second half before Goucher began to chip away, eventually pulling to within 19 (76-57) with 9:06 to play. The Gopher got as close as 17 (82-65) with 6:41 to go, but the Rangers settled any doubt with a 7-0 surge over the next 2:23, with Newman capping the run with a pair of layups.

Drew is now off for 10 days before it hosts the University of Scranton on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
