Men’s Basketball Clips Rowan for Seventh Straight Win

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Senior guard Josh Kline scored a career-high 26 points and the Drew University men's basketball team rolled to its seventh straight victory with a 96-89 win at Rowan University in a non-conference affair Monday afternoon.

Kline was one of six players to score in double figures for the Rangers (8-2), who have tied the third-longest winning streak in team history.

Drew outrebounded the Profs 52-41, including 18-12 on the offensive glass.

Kline shot 9-for-15 from the field and 7-for-10 at the foul line en route to his fourth 20-point game as a Ranger since arriving as a transfer prior to the 2023-24 season. He also grabbed nine rebounds, tying his career-best at Drew, and posted three steals and two blocked shots for good measure.

Sophomore guard Eli Yusavage added a season-high 16 points while shooting 7-for-9 over 21 minutes off the bench. He also tied a career-high with seven rebounds.

Senior forward Peso Crump contributed 13 points and seven rebounds while senior guard Pat Higgins and sophomore forward Matthew Zenker chipped in with 12 points each. Senior guard Malcolm Newman netted 10 points, and junior forward Kevin Cronin hauled in a career-high nine rebounds.

Khalif Meares recorded 27 points, five steals, and three blocks for Rowan (6-5), a team that reached the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship tournament last season.

It was a back-and-forth affair most of the game until the Rangers broke it open midway through the second half. With the Profs leading 61-60 with 12:31 left, Drew peeled off an 8-1 run to assume the lead for good. Yusavage and Newman kicked off the surge with back-to-back 3s, and Zenker capped it with a lay-up off a feed from junior forward David Musial.

Rowan crept to within five on three occasions, the last coming at 74-69 with 8:00 showing. However, Yusavage pulled up on the break to knock down a triple with 6:50 left as the Rangers pushed their lead into double figures (81-71).

Drew's advantage swelled to 13 (88-75) on a free throw from Higgins with 4:22 remaining, and Rowan was unable to get closer than seven the rest of the way.

The Rangers got out to a quick start, outscoring the Profs 9-2 to start the game. However, Rowan climbed back into it, tying the game at 11-11, and eventually took the lead at 21-20. Drew pushed its lead back to eight (45-37) on a steal and layup from Zenker with 1:35 remaining in the opening half, but the Profs scored the last four points of the period to make it a four-point game at the intermission.

Meares nailed a 3-pointer to open the second half as Rowan drew to within one, but Kline dropped six straight points to push his team's lead to 51-44 with 17:36 to go. After two ties and two lead changes, the Rangers pulled away with their decisive 8-1 run.

Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it visits undefeated and No. 8-ranked NYU at 1 p.m. in its final regular-season non-conference game of the year.
