Franklin & Marshall Tops Women’s Basketball

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's basketball team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 67-46 loss to Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference tilt Tuesday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

The Diplomats (9-3) never trailed after opening the game on a 10-0 run.

Junior forward Gianna Pica posted 12 points and nine rebounds for the Rangers (7-3) while sophomore guard Amy Rachilla contributed nine points.

Ally Trevbelev and Kennedy Wilburn scored 17 points apiece to lead F&M.

After Franklin & Marshall's early run, Drew climbed back into it with a 7-2 surge. Sophomore guard Alice Altomare scored the first four points of the run before a conventional 3-point play from Rachilla made it 12-7 with 3:28 left in the opening quarter. But the Diplomats ended the period on a 10-4 spurt to go up 22-11 heading into the second quarter.

A 12-3 run to open the second period pushed F&M's lead to 20 (34-14). The Diplomats led by as many as 23 in the stanza, but Pica converted a layup with 29 seconds left to make it a 42-23 game at the intermission.

The Rangers held F&M to just 10 points in the third quarter, when it limited the Diplomats to 20.0% shooting. Drew opened the period on an 8-0 run, capped by a pair of Rachilla free throws, to pull to within 11 (42-31) with 5:37 on the clock. However, the Diplomats ended the stanza on a 10-2 run and led 52-33 after three quarters of play.

F&M pushed its lead to 25 (64-39) with 5:31 remaining. Drew was unable to reduce the deficit under 20 the rest of the way.

The Rangers continue their five-game homestand on Monday, when they host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
