DuHaime Named to All-Tourney Team at Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. – Sophomore Andrew DuHaime was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Misericordia University Cougar Kickoff Classic, where the Rangers wrapped up tournament play with two matches on Saturday.

The Rangers (4-7) opened the day by taking on 15th-ranked Misericordia, which captured a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) decision. Drew then battled Elmira College to five sets but came up on the short end of a 3-2 (25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-7) verdict.

DuHaime finished with 12 kills versus Misericordia and 14 against Elmira, giving him a total of 47 terminations and a .347 hitting percentage for the weekend.

DuHaime made just three errors on 21 attempts versus the Cougars while senior Omarf Ortega-Reyes (12) and junior Huriel Perez (seven) combined for 19 assists.

Juniors Jacob Sledz and Ephraim Smith pounded 13 kills apiece versus Elmira, who the Rangers were playing for the second time in nine days after taking on the Eagles at the Elmira Invitational on Jan. 26. Ortega-Reyes dished out 29 assists while Perez totaled 14 helpers. Junior Bryan Do registered nine digs.

Elmira rallied from six points down to win the opening set, but the Rangers bounced back and led for nearly the entire way in the second stanza. The Eagles outscored Drew 11-6 to open the third set and led by at least three the rest of the way, building a 2-1 lead.

The Rangers opened the fourth set on a 15-9 run to force a decisive fifth game. However, Elmira started the final period on a 7-1 surge and led by at least five the rest of the way.

Drew returns to action next Saturday, when it hosts Cairn University and St. John Fisher University in a tri-match. The Rangers take on Cairn at 11 a.m. and St. John Fisher at 3 p.m.
