Women's Lax Runs Past Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Senior Lizzy Barrett scored a career-high seven goals and handed out three assists and the Drew University women's lacrosse pulled away in the third quarter in a 17-9 non-conference matchup at Arcadia University Tuesday afternoon.

The Rangers (3-3), who won for the third time in their last four games, led 10-6 before breaking it open with a 5-0 run to end the third quarter, when they piled up seven total goals.

Freshman Grace Patane contributed four goals and two assists for Drew while sophomore Emma Gallaro scored three goals. Senior Mary Kate Davidson posted six ground balls and six draw controls while senior Ella Champigny notched four ground balls and four draw controls. Sophomore Aubrey Welch also registered six DCs, and freshman Paige Shaw made 13 saves and scooped six GBs.

Morganne Dee paced the Knights (3-3) with five goals.

The Rangers never trailed after scoring the game's first three goals, as Welch, Barrett, and Gallaro all found the back of the net in the opening six minutes. Arcadia scored the last goal of the quarter, but Drew came back to score the first three goals of the second quarter on two more tallies from Barrett and one from Gallaro to stretch their lead to 6-1. Patane and Davidson also struck in the second quarter and the Rangers led 8-4 at the half.

The two teams traded goals twice to open the third quarter to make it 10-6 before Drew's decisive 5-0 run. Barrett and Patane netted two goals apiece during the stretch while Champigny struck once, handing the Rangers a commanding 15-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Barrett and Patane each scored in the final period as Drew captured its first-ever win in three meetings versus the Knights.

The Rangers return home on Thursday, when they take on cross-town rival FDU-Florham at 4 p.m.
