Women’s Lacrosse Falls in High-Scoring Affair at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team posted another big offensive showing but came up on the short end of a 22-14 decision to host Muhlenberg College in a wet and soggy non-conference outing Saturday afternoon.

The Rangers also scored 18 goals a week ago in a victory over Vassar College.

Senior Mary Kate Davidson posted four goals, four ground balls, and three draw controls for the Rangers while senior Emma DiPatri contributed three goals and one assist. Classmate Lizzy Barrett pitched in with two goals and three assists, and freshman Grace Patane tacked on two goals and one helper.

Defensively, senior Kayla Schaefer registered three caused turnovers while freshman Paige Shaw made 10 saves.

Nicole Steiner paced the Mules (3-0) with eight goals.

Barrett scored 31 seconds into the game to hand Drew an early lead, but Muhlenberg outscored the Rangers 9-3 over the remainder of the period. DiPatri scored twice while Davidson also connected in the opening stanza.

The Mules netted the first two goals of the second quarter to extend their lead to 11-4. Drew answered with back-to-back tallies from senior Rachael West and Barrett to cut the deficit to five, but answered with a 3-0 spurt. Patane struck with 48 seconds left to make it a 14-7 game at the break.

Muhlenberg outscored the Rangers 4-2 in the third quarter, pushing their advantage to 18-9. Senior Ella Champigny and DiPatri each found paydirt for Drew in the period.

The Rangers closed the game by edging the Mules 5-4 in the final quarter. Davidson scored three times in the frame while sophomore Emma Gallaro and Patane each struck once.

Drew continues its season on Wednesday, when it visits Montclair State University at 4 p.m. in a non-conference affair.
