MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Drew University women's lacrosse team exploded for 10 goals in the first quarter and the Rangers cruised to a 20-8 non-conference victory on a rain-soaked field at Montclair State University Wednesday afternoon.
Senior
Lizzy Barrett tied a career-high with six goals and handed out two assists for Drew (2-3). Six other Rangers netted multiple goals, including freshman
Grace Patane, who registered three goals and three assists.

Ella Champigny added three goals and five ground balls for the Rangers while sophomore
Aubrey Welch contributed two goals and three assists. Senior
Mary Kate Davidson recorded two goals and nine draw controls, and senior
Emma DiPatri notched two goals and one assist. Sophomore
Emma Gallaro also scored twice for Drew while freshman
Paige Shaw collected nine saves.
Lexi Robinson scored three goals for the Red Hawks (1-1).
The Rangers opened the game on an 8-0 tear, with Patane and Barrett scoring two goals each during the run. Montclair State scored two of the next three goals to make it a 9-2 game, but Patane just beat the buzzer for her third goal of the day while handing Drew its eight-goal advantage heading into the second quarter.
Champigny and Davidson scored the first two goals of the second period to push Drew's lead to 12-2. The Red Hawks answered with two goals of their own, but the Rangers ended the half on a 3-0 run to assume a 15-4 halftime lead. Barrett struck for two more goals while Gallaro scored once during the stretch.
Barrett picked up where she left off in the third quarter, scoring two minutes into the stanza. DiPatri got into the act when she scored twice for Drew in the period and the Rangers led 18-6 heading into the fourth quarter. Welch and Barrett scored the last two goals of the game as Drew reached the 20-goal mark for the first time since April 5 of last season.
The Rangers continue their season on Tuesday, when they visit Arcadia University at 4 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
