MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University men's tennis team won all nine singles and doubles matches en route to a 9-0 Landmark Conference victory over Juniata College on Sunday at the Drew Tennis Complex.
The Rangers (6-4, 3-0 LC) went 2-0 in Landmark play for the weekend and have now won 25 straight regular-season conference matches dating back to the 2018-19 season. In addition, Drew has captured its last 12 overall matches versus Landmark Conference opponents.
Drew also won on the women's side, and with the two victories Drew Men's and Women's Head Coach
Scott Veith became the first tennis coach in program history to reach 150 combined wins. He currently has 151 wins and is 92-26 in men's tennis and 59-39 in women's play.
The Rangers opened the day with three doubles victories. Seniors
Santo Carroccia and
Daryl Wong Li-Hom teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1 while freshman
Daniel Arcari and sophomore
Jesse Faro prevailed in a tiebreaker at No. 2, winning 8-7 (7-5). Freshman
Ian Michel and senior
Jack Polvere added an 8-2 triumph at No. 3.
Drew also ran the table in singles action but had to battle through a super tiebreaker set at both the first and second flights, as Faro won 6-4, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 1 while Wong Li-Hom rallied for a gutty 6-7 (6-8), 6-1, 10-6 victory at No. 2.
Also coming out on top were Arcari at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), freshman
Joshua Thomas at No. 4 (6-1, 7-5), sophomore
Shivi Perera at No. 5 (6-3, 6-0), and Carroccia at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2).
The Rangers return to the court on Wednesday, April 3, when they host the University of Scranton in another Landmark Conference affair starting at 3:30 p.m.
