MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's tennis won two of three doubles matches and three of the six singles contests en route to a 5-4 Landmark Conference victory over the University of Scranton on Wednesday in the Simon Forum.
With the win, Ranger Head Coach
Scott Veith became Drew's all-time winningest women's tennis coach. Veith, now in his seventh season at the Forest, has compiled 60 victories, one more than Ira Miller posted from 1998-2004, and has guided the Rangers to the last two Landmark Conference titles. Veith is also Drew's men's tennis head coach and has totaled 152 combined wins.
The Rangers (4-5, 4-0 LC), who remained undefeated in Landmark Conference play, earned their 22nd straight victory over a Landmark Conference opponent and their 20th consecutive regular-season conference win.
Drew opened the match with victories at Nos. 2-3 doubles. Freshmen
Maddie Krzanowski and
Riley Roesel teamed up for an 8-6 victory at No. 2 while junior
Courtney Bresler and sophomore
Natalia Zamora captured an 8-4 triumph at No. 3. The Rangers' lone doubles setback came via tiebreaker at the No. 1 spot.
In singles play, Drew captures wins at the first, second, and fourth flights. Senior
Melina Christodoulou prevailed in three sets at No. 1, winning 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-2, while junior
Mary Kalorin was a straight-set winner (7-5, 6-0) at No. 2. Zamora added a three-set victory at No. 4 (6-0, 3-6, 7-5).
The Rangers return to the court on Saturday, April 6, when they host Catholic University for a Landmark Conference match starting at 1 p.m.
