Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Runs Past Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y.– Sophomore Riley Zeer and junior Mike DeMayo combined for 11 goals and five assists and senior GJ Nazziola finished 22-for-25 on faceoffs as the Drew University men's lacrosse team rode a big first half to a 17-10 non-conference victory at Manhattanville College Wednesday afternoon.

Zeer posted six goals and two assist while DeMayo added five goals, three assists, and six ground balls for the Rangers (4-1), who won their fourth game in a row for the first time since 2017.

The Valiants led 3-2 before Drew used an 8-1 run spanning the first two quarters to open up a gap, eventually leading 12-6 at the half.

Nazziola also picked up 10 ground balls and has now gone 43-for-54 at the X over his last two games.

Senior Tommy Larmore added two goals and an assist for the Rangers, who piled up a 55-31 shot advantage, while junior Joey Larmore also scored twice. Senior Tyler McCarthy recorded seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, and sophomore Sawyer Kennedy registered eight saves over the opening 57 minutes.

Nick Cornelia scored five goals for Manhattanville (3-3).

Zeer scored three of his goals in the first quarter, when the Rangers scored the last four goals to assume a 6-3 lead. DeMayo added two man-down goals in a 38-second span to push Drew's lead to 8-3.

Cornelia temporarily stopped Drew's momentum when he scored with 11:36 left in the opening half, but the Rangers answered with three consecutive goals. The Larmore brothers and Zeer scored once apiece to push Drew's lead to 11-4 with 8:12 still left in the half. The Valiants scored two of the last three goals of the period to pull to within six at the intermission.

The Rangers scored the first goal of the second half when Zeer found the back of the net just over a minute into the period. The offenses cooled off from there, as the two sides combined for a 10-minute scoring drought. Zeer reignited the Rangers when he struck for his final tally of the game with 3:20 left in the quarter before senior Kellum Foster-Palmer converted to make it a 15-6 game with 2:12 on the clock.

Manhattanville scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter, but DeMayo settled any doubt for Drew when he scored the team's final two goals, making it 17-9 with 4:12 left.

The Rangers continue their schedule on Saturday, when they visit Merchant Marine in a non-conference matchup starting at noon.
