SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton used a big second quarter to hand the Drew University women's lacrosse team a 17-7 setback in Landmark Conference play on Wednesday.
The two sides were tied 2-2 after one quarter of play before the Royals outscored the Rangers 9-0 in the second period of play.
Senior
Mary Kate Davidson posted three goals, six ground balls, and five draw controls for Drew (6-7, 2-3 LC) while classmate
Lizzy Barrett netted two goals and two assists. Sophomore
Emily Monaco registered seven ground balls and three caused turnovers, and freshman
Paige Shaw collected 13 saves.
Grace Lane paced the Royals (10-2, 5-0 LC) with six goals and one assist.
The Rangers led twice in the first quarter, including at 1-0 after Barrett scored the first goal of the game at the 12:17 mark. Davidson struck with 4:26 left in the opening stanza to put her team up 2-1 before Scranton scored the final goal of the quarter and followed up with its pivotal second period.
The Royals added the first two goals of the third quarter, pushing its lead to 13-2, before the Rangers received back-to-back tallies from Davidson and freshman
Grace Patane to make it 13-4 heading into the final stanza.
Barrett, senior
Emma DiPatri, and Davidson each scored in the fourth quarter for the Rangers to make it 15-7 before Scranton scored twice in the final two minutes.
The Rangers return to action on Saturday, when they host Lycoming College at 1 p.m. in a Landmark Conference matchup on Senior Day.
