MADISON, N.J. – Eight different players scored a goal and the Drew University women's lacrosse team earned a big 20-16 Landmark Conference victory over Moravian University on Wednesday in Ranger Stadium.
The Rangers (8-7, 4-3 LC), who reached the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this season, received four goals, one assist, and six draw controls from senior
Ella Champigny. Senior
Mary Kate Davidson added three goals and two assists while classmate
Lizzy Barrett posted three goals, one assist, and 10 draw controls. Senior
Emma DiPatri contributed three goals, and sophomore
Aubrey Welch notched two goals and two assists. Freshman
Grace Patane chipped in with a pair of goals.
Defensively, sophomore
Emily Monaco picked up four ground balls while freshman
Paige Shaw made six saves for Drew, which pulled into a three-way with Moravian and Susquehanna University for third place in the Landmark Conference standings.
Madi Dippel led the Greyhounds (7-7, 3-4 LC) with six goals and two assists.
The Rangers trailed just once on the day and outscored Moravian 6-4 in the first quarter. The Greyhounds answered with the first three goals of the second quarter to assume a 7-6 lead, but the Rangers came back four unanswered tallies and led 10-7 at the half.
The back-and-forth affair continued in the third quarter, when the Greyhounds edged the Rangers 6-5 to make it a 15-13 game heading into the final period. Moravian opened the quarter on a 5-2 run to tie it up at 12-12, but that's when the Rangers scored three straight to assume the lead for good.
The Rangers made the lead stand up, outscoring the visitors 5-3 in the final quarter. Davidson and Champigny each scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter.
Drew continues its season on Saturday, when it visits Goucher College at 1 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
