Nazziola Faceoffs, Ground Balls Records; Larmore Brothers Combine for Nine Goals in Win

MADISON, N.J. – Senior GJ Nazziola celebrated Senior Day by breaking the school record for career ground balls and the Landmark Conference record for career faceoff wins while Joey and Tommy Larmore combined for nine goals as the Drew University men's lacrosse team defeated Juniata College 18-7 in its regular-season finale on Saturday in Ranger Stadium.

With the win, the Rangers (10-7, 5-4 LC) finished in a three-way tie with Catholic University and Moravian University for fourth place in the Landmark Conference standings and through a tiebreaking procedure have been awarded the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championship. Drew will visit No. 3-seed University of Scranton on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a first-round game.

The Rangers recognized their 13 seniors in a ceremony following the game.

Nazziola picked up a career-high 20 ground balls and now has 424 for his career, one more than former record holder Sean McGowan C'12 accumulated from 2009-12. Nazziola also had another big day on faceoffs, finishing 23-for-29. His 22nd win of the day was also the 730th of his career, breaking the previous Landmark Conference record established by Patrick Cefalu of Scranton from 2008-11.

Joey Larmore, a junior, finished with five goals and three assists, setting season-highs for goals and points while his older brother, Tommy netted four goals.

Several other Rangers posted big performances as well. Senior Brett Spafford recorded four goals – including three straight to end the first quarter – and one assist while junior Charlie Collins dished out a career-high six assists, a mark that ranks sixth in school history. Junior Mike DeMayo contributed two goals, two assists, and three ground balls.

Defensively, senior Tyler McCarthy registered three goals and three caused turnovers while classmate Connor Fair also picked up three GBs. In goal, freshman Joe Barnish started and played the first half, stopping two shots, while sophomore Sawyer Kennedy and freshman Will Shandlay also turned aside two shots apiece.

Aiden Duran scored three goals to lead Juniata (2-15, 0-9 LC).

The Rangers never trailed after scoring the first three goals of the contest. It was a 3-1 game before Spafford went on his scoring spree to give Drew a 6-1 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Drew scored the first four goals of the second quarter, with DeMayo netting the Rangers' last two tallies, and Drew led 10-2 at halftime.

It was the Larmore show in the third quarter, when Joey and Tommy scored five of Drew's six goals, including three from Joey and two from Tommy as the Rangers' lead swelled to 16-5 through three quarters of play.

Drew's 10 wins are the program's most since the 2012 squad finished 13-4 and set a program record for wins. The Rangers will be making its first Landmark Conference Championship appearance in a normal season since 2017.
