Women’s Lacrosse Downs Juniata, Clinches Home Playoff Game

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Lizzy Barrett scored the go-ahead goal with 1:56 remaining, and classmate Mary Kate Davidson provided an insurance tally 25 seconds later and the Drew University women's lacrosse team clinched a home playoff game in the upcoming Landmark Conference Championships with a 14-12 victory at Juniata College in its regular-season finale on Saturday.

The Rangers (10-7, 6-3 LC) will enter the conference tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host Juniata, the No. 5 seed, in a rematch on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Drew outscored the Eagles 4-1 in the final period, rallying from an early three-goal deficit.

Davidson finished with four goals, seven draw controls, and four ground balls while Barrett notched three goals, two assists, and four draw controls. Sophomore Aubrey Welch added three goals, one assist, and five DCs, and senior Ella Champigny contributed two goals, two assists, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Freshman Paige Shaw collected eight saves for the Rangers.

Grace Gibbs and Peyton Goodrich netted four goals and one assist apiece for Juniata (13-4, 6-3 LC).

In a high-scoring first quarter, the Eagles raced out to a 7-4 lead. Drew cut the deficit to 9-7 by halftime, then pulled to within one (11-10) at the end of the third quarter.

The Rangers scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to take their first lead since it was 2-1. Davidson struck with 12:11 left before Welch put Drew in front 12-11 with 10:53 remaining.

Goodrich tied the game 30 seconds later, but it would turn out to be Juniata's final goal of the game. Shaw made a pair of saves on two potential game-tying shots, and neither team scored again until Barret and Davidson netted their two big goals for the Rangers.
