AMHERST, Mass. – The Drew University women's tennis team opened the NCAA Division III Championships on a high note, earning a 5-0 victory over UMass-Boston on Friday at Amherst College.
 
The Rangers (13-6), who won their sixth match in a row, move on to the second round to face second-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 2 p.m. back at Amherst.
 
It is the second year in a row that Drew has won the opening-round match in the NCAA Championships after defeating Hunter College 5-0 last season.
 
The Rangers opened the match with a 1-0 lead after the Beacons (12-3) forfeited No. 3 doubles. Drew then took a 3-0 lead after winning at both Nos. 1-2 doubles. Senior 
Melina Christodoulou and junior 
Mary Kalorin won 8-4 at the No. 1 spot, improving to 11-6 on the season, while freshman 
Maddie Krzanowski and freshman 
Riley Roesel prevailed 8-4 at No. 2.
 
Drew took a 4-0 lead on a forfeit at No. 6 singles before Krzanowski ended the match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, pushing her winning streak to six while improving to 11-3.
 
The Rangers and Pomona-Pitzer will be facing off for the first time in team history.
