Men’s Tennis Opens Season at Union Garnet Charger Invitational

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Drew University men's tennis team opened its 2024-25 season at the highly-competitive Union College Garnet Charger Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
 
A dozen Rangers competed versus host Union as well as Saint Lawrence University and SUNY Oneonta.
 
Sophomore Daniel Arcari and junior Jesse Faro led the way for Drew, reaching the final of the "A" doubles flight. Faro also finished third in the "A" singles bracket.
 
After receiving a first-round bye, Arcari and Faro opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Austin Gregory and Seth Prusko of Union in the quarterfinals. They followed up with an 8-6 triumph over Jake David and Broderick Pinto of Saint Lawrence before falling 8-1 to Ben Jacobs and Jesus Sosa of Union in the final.
 
Three other doubles tandems recorded at least one victory. Also competing in the "A" draw, freshman Dikshan Chhikara and sophomore Nicolas Mobayed won 8-3 versus Aidan Baraco and Michael Chaho of Saint Lawrence before bowing out in the quarterfinals. The pair went on to finish 1-1 in the consolation rounds, including an 8-0 win over Peter Pitaleff and Jaden Ritterman of Oneonta.
 
Sophomore Ty Gelijns and senior Sergey Kravchenko also registered a victory, prevailing 8-0 over Braden Greenberg and Sean Lipman of Oneonta in the "B" draw consolation round.
 
Also in doubles, freshman Cameron Longa and junior Devan Sutaria won their lone match with an 8-7 (7-2) win over a pair of teammates, freshman Pharell Longenbach and senior Owen Reynolds, in the "B" flight consolations.
 
The reigning Landmark Conference Player of the Year, Faro also won his first match in singles, topping Sosa 6-2, 1-6, 10-4 in the "A" bracket. He then lost 7-5, 6-0 to Pinto in the semifinals before claiming the third-place match by injury default.
 
Six other Rangers captured one victory apiece in the consolation rounds, including Arcari (8-1 versus Chris Chippari of Oneonta in the "A" flight), Chhikara (8-1 versus Ritterman in the "B" draw), Mobayed (8-7 versus Baraco in the "B" flight), Kravchenko (8-4 versus Braden Greenberg of Oneonta in the "D" bracket), senior Josh Kline (8-1 versus Greenberg in the "D" bracket), and Longenbach (8-6 versus Longa in an exhibition flight).
 
Drew returns to action on Saturday, when they host Lycoming College in their Landmark Conference opener starting at noon.
