SELLINSGROVE, Pa. – The Drew University field hockey team lost by a 6-1 count at Susquehanna University in its Landmark Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Ellie Kopec scored her first collegiate goal to lead the Rangers (5-3, 0-1).
The River Hawks (3-2, 1-0), the defending Landmark Conference champions, scored once in the first quarter and twice in the second period to assume a 3-0 halftime advantage.
Susquehanna built a 5-0 advantage before Kopec put the Rangers on the scoreboard, converting a feed from sophomore
Emma Rider with 5:31 remaining in the game. The hosts responded netted the final goal with just under three minutes left.
Sophomore
Beth Kelly recorded her second double-digit save performance of the season for the Rangers, turning aside 10 shots.
The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they host Western Connecticut State at 7 p.m. in a non-conference outing.
