MADISON, N.J. – Catholic University scored four straight goals to end the game and the Cardinals topped the Drew University field hockey team 5-2 in a Landmark Conference affair Saturday afternoon in Ranger Stadium.
The Rangers (12-3, 4-2 LC) led 2-1 after senior
Chandler Straub scored less than a minute into the second half before Catholic netted two goals in each of the last two quarters.
The Cardinals (2-11, 2-4 LC) took a 1-0 lead when they scored in the final minute of the first quarter. But Drew answered quickly, as freshman
Bella Fini netted her 14th goal of the season less than two minutes into the second quarter. Catholic held a 12-10 edge in shots in the first half and it was a 1-1 game at the intermission.
Straub finished off a pass from sophomore
Emily Caporrino for her seventh goal of the season. But Catholic went ahead for good when it scored twice over a two-minute span midway through the third quarter, making it 3-2.
The Cardinals sealed the win with another tally early in the final period and a penalty-stroke goal midway through the quarter.
Junior
Beth Kelly made six saves over 51 minutes for the Rangers before sophomore
Dominique Flores stopped one shot in the final nine minutes. Ella Bowman collected seven saves for Catholic.
The Rangers are back in action on Wednesday, when they visit Elizabethtown College at 7 p.m. in another Landmark Conference affair.
