SHAWNEE ON DELAWARE, Pa. – Sophomore
Josephine Nguyen captured medalist honors to lead the Drew University women's golf team at the Landmark Conference Fall Preview, held Saturday and Sunday at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort.
As a team, the Rangers shot a 687 (354-333) and placed third among eight teams. Catholic finished first with a 653 while Susquehanna was second with a 687. Drew finished in front of Scranton (777), Wilkes (803), Juniata (803), Moravian (839), and Elizabethtown (863).
Nguyen entered Sunday's final round with a one-stroke lead and pulled away for a five-stroke victory, shooting a 10-over-par 154 (78-76). For the second day in a row, she turned in a steady performance, shooting par on 13 holes while also carding her first birdie of the weekend. She finished with the tournament shooting par on 25 of 36 holes en route to her second win of the season.
Senior
Roxy Riles was Drew's second finisher, carding a 163 (80-83) while tying for fifth out of 46 golfers. She birdied one hole and parred seven others on Sunday and shot even par on 17 holes for the tournament.
Sophomore
Isabella Borte was Drew's third finisher, dropping 13 strokes from her opening-round score and placing 17th with a 183 (98-85) while shooting one birdie and seven pars on Sunday. Senior
Emily Rhode also made a big jump in the second round, slicing nine strokes from her Day One Score to finish 18th with a 187 (98-89), which included one birdie and four pars in the second round.
Junior
Dabin Lee was also in action and placed 31st with a 209 (102-107). She capped the tournament with a birdie on the par-3 18th hole.
The Rangers return to the links in March for the spring portion of their schedule.
