Scranton Tops Field Hockey in Regular-Season Finale

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University field hockey team took on the University of Scranton in its regular-season finale, and the Landmark Conference-leading Royals captured a 7-0 victory Wednesday evening in Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (13-5, 5-4 LC) will now move on to the Landmark Conference Championship tournament as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 Wilkes University in a first-round matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Junior Beth Kelly made 11 saves for Drew while Maggie Keys scored three goals for the Royals (15-3, 9-0 LC), who won their ninth game in a row and finished undefeated in conference play.

Neither side scored in the first quarter, when Kelly recorded four saves. Scranton got on the scoreboard midway through the second period on a goal from Ava De Natale and it was a 1-0 game at the intermission.

The Royals broke it open in the third quarter, scoring four times over the opening six and a half minutes, then tacked on two goals in the final period.

Freshman Bella Fini, sophomore Emily Caporrino, and senior Emily Monaco all placed a shot on goal for the Rangers.

Drew finished the regular season with the program's most victories and best conference record since 2013.
