MADISON, N.J. – Chandler Straub celebrated Senior Day in style, scoring two goals as the Drew University field hockey team defeated Lycoming College 3-1 in a Landmark Conference tilt Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
With the win, the Rangers (10-1, 2-0 LC) extended their winning streak to six and equaled the program's best start through 11 games since 2013.
It was the first career multi-goal outing for Straub, who was recognized along with
Emily Monaco in a brief ceremony before the game.
The Rangers outshot the Warriors 24-11 and fired off 20 shots on goal.
Junior
Beth Kelly made five saves while Isabella Bobe stopped 17 shots for Lycoming (6-3, 0-1 LC).
After a scoreless first quarter junior
Liriana Seferovic scored off rebound with 6:28 left in the opening half. Then 34 seconds later, Straub struck with her first goal, slapping a shot past the keeper on a pass from freshman
Karine Johnson. The Rangers carried their 2-0 lead into halftime.
Straub wasted little time striking again in the second half, converting 24 seconds into the period. Following a cross from the right, freshman
Bella Fini gathered the ball and pushed it to the left side of the goal, where Straub rifled a shot into an open cage to make it a 3-0 game.
Lycoming broke open the shutout when it scored late in the third quarter.
Drew continues Landmark Conference play on Wednesday, when it visits Moravian University at 7 p.m.
