Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Raritan Valley

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University women's basketball team outscored Raritan Valley Community College 28-5 to start the game and the Rangers cruised to an 84-41 non-conference victory Wednesday evening in Baldwin Gym.
 
The Rangers (7-4) shot 48.6% from the field, marking the team's second-best performance of the year, and dished out a season-high 26 assists. In addition, Drew knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers, with eight different players connection from beyond the arc.
 
Junior guard Amy Rachilla posted her second career double-double to lead Drew, recording 19 points and a career-high 10 rebounds to go with four steals. Senior forward Gianna Pica added 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists while freshman guard Katie Reiner registered 10 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Olivia Aliotta contributed with seven points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Maddie Beyer and sophomore guard Jocelyn Kingsley dished out five assists each.
 
Aviva Palms recorded 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lions (6-8).
 
The Rangers shot a blistering 60.0% (12-for-20) in the first quarter, when Rachilla posted eight points and four rebounds. A free throw from freshman forward Molly Chapman gave Drew its 28-5 lead with 2:09 left in the opening quarter before the Lions scored the last five points of the period to cut it to 18 at the end of the period. Drew outscored Raritan Valley 21-15 in the second quarter to assume a 49-25 lead at the half.
 
The Blue and Green settled any doubt in the third quarter, when it opened on a 14-1 run and outscored the Lions 20-4 for the period.
 
The Rangers now take a 20-day break from competition before returning to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7, when it hosts Goucher College in a Landmark Conference affair starting at 7 p.m.
