ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Elizabethtown College broke out to a fast start and the nationally-ranked Blue Jays handed the Drew University women's basketball team a 59-39 setback in Landmark Conference play Wednesday evening.
Elizabethtown (6-0, 3-0 LC) entered the night ranked No. 14 by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and No. 17 by D3hoops.com.
Sophomore guard
Jocelyn Kingsley posted nine points and five rebounds off the bench for the Rangers (5-3, 1-2 LC), who outscored the Blue Jays 21-18 in the second half, while junior guard
Miabella Diaz and freshman forward
Molly Chapman scored six points each.
Allyia Kennedy posted 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Elizabethtown.
The hosts never trailed after opening the game on a 10-2 run. Drew twice pulled to within seven in the first quarter and trailed 19-10 after 10 minutes of play.
Senior forward
Gianna Pica converted a layup in the first minute of the second quarter to pull Drew to within seven again, and Kingsley split a trip to the foul line to make it 25-15 with 6:40 on the clock. However, that's when the Blue Jays embarked on a 14-1 run to open up a gap. Etown carried a 41-18 lead into the intermission.
The Blue Jays held just a 10-9 edge on the Rangers in the third quarter before Drew outscored Elizabethtown 12-8 in the final stanza.
The Rangers continue Landmark Conference play on Saturday, when they host Lycoming College at 4 p.m.
