Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 20 Rangers Hold Off Lycoming

MADISON, N.J. – Four different Rangers scored in double figures and the No. 20-ranked Drew University men's basketball team held off a late rally to defeat Lycoming College 75-72 in a Landmark Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (7-1, 3-1 LC) led by 10 with 4:10 remaining, but the Warriors made it a one-possession game (74-71) with 42 seconds left.

Senior David Musial split a trip to the foul line with 12 seconds to go, making it 75-71, before Lycoming's Princeton Layton was fouled on an offensive rebound with 0.3 seconds left. Layton hit the first of two free throws to make it a three-point game once again, but his intentional miss on the second shot did not hit the rim and the Rangers were able to kill the final three tenths on a baseball pass into the frontcourt.

The Rangers out-rebounded the Warriors 50-39, marking the team's highest rebound total since a victory at Rowan University on Dec. 30 of last season.

Junior guard Andre De Los Reyes netted 15 points to lead Drew in the scoring column while classmate Eli Yusavage posted 14 points and a career-high seven assists. Musial recorded nine points and a career-high 16 rebounds – the most by a Ranger since Howard McBurnie Jr. C'23 grabbed 19 in a double-overtime loss to Catholic University on Jan. 21, 2023. Junior guard Charlie Thornton and sophomore forward Ben Manns added 10 points apiece while senior forward Kevin Cronin tied a career-high with nine rebounds.

Layton paced the Warriors (3-6, 0-4 LC) with 25 points and eight rebounds while Hayden Pardoe notched 18 points and seven boards.

The Rangers were hot from beyond the arc early, hitting three straight 3-pointers to open the game as part of an 11-0 run to start the day. However, Lycoming battled all the way back to take the lead (25-23) with 9:33 remaining in the first half and led by as much as six two minutes later. Drew outscored the Warriors 9-4 to end the half and the two sides were tied at 39-all heading into the locker room. De Los Reyes scored seven points during the run to cap a big first half in which he scored all of his points.

Drew took the lead for good on a 7-0 run midway through the second half made it 58-53. Yusavage fed Musial for an emphatic dunk to put the Rangers up 69-62 with 6:30 remaining, then completed an old-fashioned 3-point play to give Drew its aforementioned 10-point lead, setting up Lycoming's late rally.

The Rangers take nine days off from competition before visiting Merchant Marine on Tuesday, Dec. 16 in a non-conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
