UNION, N.J. – The Drew University baseball team led 5-4 after seven innings of its season opener at Kean University, but the Cougars rallied for a 7-5 victory in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

Freshman
Zach Maxwell finished 3-for-5 to lead the Rangers at the plate.
Anthony Diaz Jr. went 2-for-4 with a double while freshman
Frank Master was also 2-for-4.

Five different pitched toed the rubber for Drew, including senior
Connor Ruscansky, who fired a perfect eighth inning. Senior starter
Matt Colucci and junior
Brandon Kobryn tossed two innings apiece while senior
Kenny Yonker worked 2 1/3 innings and was handed the loss. Senior
Nic Curcio also pitched 2/3 of an inning.

Kean pushed one across in each of the first two innings before Drew took the lead with a four-run, three-hit third, which included RBI-singles from Maxwell and Master.

The Cougars pulled even at 4-4 with two in the fourth, but the Rangers went back on top in the sixth. Master led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a passed ball before scoring on a sacrifice bunt from senior
Dallas Lorenzetti to make it 5-4.

Kean pushed back in front with a three-run, three-hit seventh to set the final score.

The Rangers continue their season with a pair of games next weekend at FDU-Florham. Drew takes on Saint Elizabeth University on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before facing FDU on Saturday at 1:30.
